On beautiful but humid south Florida evening Boca Raton FC continued its NPSL campaign against Naples United. A shorthanded BRFC squad fought gamely through adversity and scored two late goals despite being reduced to ten men to win 3-2.
Prior to Daniel Pena’s dramatic winner, Gio DiMauro recorded his third goal in the last two NPSL games in the first half and David Adejunmobi scored a dramatic late equalizer after Boca Raton was reduced to ten men due to Shadi Harb’s sending off.
Naples had opened the scoring in the 16th minute after controlling the early action. However for the rest of the half, Boca Raton were the better side with DiMauro’s equalizer coming due to a goalkeeper error but very much with the run of play.
In the second half, BRFC started the stronger but Naples gradually began to get more chances after about minute 55 and finally broke through to take the lead in minute 68. As Boca Raton was pushing for an equalizer Captain Shadi Harb was sent off in minute 85 for a second yellow card which appeared to be for dissent. Minutes later though Adejunmobi met an Eduardo Cruz free kick in midair to equalize the match. Despite being a man down, BRFC pushed for a late stoppage time winner and got it courtesy of Pena whose looping finish was a classic goal fitting to win any match.
