As Boca Raton FC gear up to host Miami FC in a crucial NPSL match, our player to watch is Giovanni Amoroso.
Amoroso, who played in the youth ranks of Italian outfit Udinese Calcio and then for Brazilian side Ituano, signed for Boca Raton FC in February.
Like any striker, 20-year-old Amoroso has an eye for goal but also looks to set up his teammates, providing three assists in the last two games. The right-footed forward uses his pace to get in dangerous positions and has been able to use his passing ability to create goals. A key to Amoroso’s game is his quick decision-making, which is vital to swift counterattacks.
One part of his game that Amoroso has been working tirelessly to improve is his positioning and movement. In order to create more scoring opportunities, as well as relieve defensive pressure, Amoroso is working to find open spaces where he can receive the ball and transition from defense to attack.
“I am really happy to be part of Boca Raton FC,” says Amoroso. “I am getting to play a lot of minutes, which allows me to maintain my fitness and helps me build more confidence with each game played.” The striker is enjoying learning from coach Jim Rooney, saying, “He is an excellent coach. He has a lot of valuable experience to share with us, which we can learn from.”
After a slow start to the season, Boca Raton FC has won two consecutive games and will look to extend that streak to three games on Saturday. According to Amoroso, the Boys in Blue bounced back by analyzing their mistakes from the first two games: “We have been working hard and learning from our mistakes in order to avoid repeating them. We maintained our focus, gave it our all, and earned two wins. On Saturday, we will execute what we have been working on in training and strive to earn another three points.”
Come out to Atlantic High School Stadium at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday to support Boca Raton FC as they take on Miami FC. Tickets can be purchased for $10 either at www.bocaratonfc.com/tickets or at the door on gameday.
