As the Boys in Blue take on Naples United FC and look to bring all three points back to Boca Raton, Austin Lukasik is our player to watch.
The 19-year-old defender recently returned from his first year at Vassar College. Lukasik is happy with how his season unfolded, yet he remains eager to continue developing his game: “It went well. I was able to play a lot and in multiple positions, helping the team any way I could. I would have liked to contribute more offensively.”
In 18 games for Vassar, Lukasik played 1,380 minutes. The right-footed defender played a crucial role in the Vassar backline that conceded only 0.94 goals per game.
For Lukasik, playing with and against older, more experienced players has been beneficial: “Many of the players are in their mid-20s and have experience playing at a highly competitive level. Playing in this environment has helped me to grow as a player.”
“Coach Rooney is a great coach,” says Lukasik. “He expects a lot from his players, so it is important that we always give 100% in training, as well as in games.”
After back-to-back losses, the Boys in Blue are eager to end the four-game road stretch with a win. Lukasik believes that a stronger mentality can help Boca Raton achieve their objective: “As long as we remain level-headed and understand that we are a very strong team, we will be able to rebound. If we are mentally strong during the game, we will be able to get the desired result.”
