In preparation for the 2015 APSL Season and the Final Qualifying Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, Boca Raton Football Club continues to add to its resume friendlies with heavy-hitters from the soccer world.
Boca Raton FC will take on the 2009 UEFA Cup Champions FC Shakhtar Donetsk at Boca Raton HS Stadium on Monday, January 25 at 7 p.m.
“Soccer in the US is growing so rapidly” says Joe Palmer, executive director of FC Shakhtar Donetsk, “and I’ve been really impressed with what Douglas and his team have been doing to build the game at a local level, it’s so important and we are more than happy to support the promotion of the great game here in Boca by participating in what should be a fun, festive evening at Boca Raton High school .”
Currently in the United States on their midseason break, FC Shakhtar Donetsk took part in the 2016 Florida Cup that just concluded this week.
FC Shakhtar Donetsk is one of the largest clubs in Eastern Europe and is a regular participant in the UEFA Champions League. Founded in 1936, the club is celebrating its 80th year of existence this year. Shakhtar currently leads the Ukrainian Premier League with a 14-1-1 record in the 2015-16 season.
“We are very excited to have a team with a name like Shakhtar believe in what we are doing here in Boca Raton,” said Boca Raton FC president, Douglas Heizer. “This game is a huge opportunity to show our growth as a club and allow our fans to experience soccer at the highest level.”
One of the most popular club in Ukraine, FC Shakhtar boasts a number of great international talents such as Croatian National Team captain Darijo Srna, Brazilian Nationals, Wellington, Fred, Alex Texeira, and Bernard.

FC Shakhtar are currently in the Round of 32 in the Europa League where they will face Schalke 04 on February 18.
