Boca Raton FC opened its 2017 APSL campaign in style with a 5-1 win over Jupiter United SC at Cypress Park. Boca Raton was paced by two goals from Justin Wilbanks and some outstanding midfield play throughout the match.
Boca Raton FC has won both the APSL Spring and Fall Championships in 2015 and 2016 and began the new season quickly scoring twice in a three minute period early in the first half and never looking back. Justin Wilbanks recorded the first goal for Boca Raton FC in minute 15 after a succession of corner kicks. The initial corner was won after Jason Fitzgerald made a deep overlapping run on the left side and threatened to score before a Jupiter defender cleared the ball out for a corner. It was the first of Wilbanks two goals on the day. Boca Raton goalkeeper Chad Pasmore made two excellent saves on dangerous free kicks for Jupiter before halftime.
At halftime Boca Raton FC led 2-0 but Bruno Militz quickly struck minutes after the restart making an incisive run from the left side of midfield and completing the move with a silky finish from a tight angle. After Pasmore made a mistake on a back pass that led to a Jupiter goal, Boca Raton once again reasserted itself, scoring twice more, as Wilbanks recorded his second of the day in minute 62 and late on a final goal came via an exquisite piece of play between Militz and Shadi Harb.
APSL play resumes for Boca Raton FC on April 8 when Miami United will make their league debut against Boca Raton. The same two clubs will face off also in the NPSL Sunshine Conference opener on April 30 at Milander Park in Hialeah.
