One of the most-storied franchises in the United States will be taking on Boca Raton Football at Boca Raton HS Stadium as Boca Raton continues its preparations for the 2016 APSL Season.
The defending APSL Champions will host the defending North American Soccer League Champions, New York Cosmos on March 12 at Boca Raton HS Stadium at 7p.m.
“It’s the final month of our preseason, so we want to continue getting better as a unit,” said Cosmos Head Coach and Sporting Director Giovanni Savarese. “Traveling to South Florida to train and match up with Boca Raton FC is a good opportunity as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
The Cosmos are famously known from its original time in the NASL back in the late 1970s as the club brought in superstars such as Pelé, Giorgio Chinaglia, Carlos Alberto, and Franz Beckenbauer, en route to five NASL Soccer Bowl Championships.
“We are very excited to have a team like the New York Cosmos believe in what we are doing here in Boca Raton,” said Boca Raton FC president, Douglas Heizer. “This game is a huge opportunity for us in Boca Raton to continuing to show our growth as a club and allow our fans to experience soccer at the highest level.”
The Cosmos returned to the pitch in 2013 and in their first season back, the club’s winning ways continued as they were crowned the 2013 Soccer Bowl Champions. This past season the Cosmos, led by Spanish legends Marcos Senna, and Raúl, once again hoisted the Soccer Bowl.
“Having a team like the New York Cosmos come visit us here in Boca Raton to play a friendly versus Boca Raton FC is a tremendous opportunity not only for our club but for the entire City of Boca Raton,” says Boca Raton FC head coach and General Manager Marcelo Castillo. “We are very excited to host the New York Cosmos.”
