Boca Raton FC’s 2017 US Open Cup ended on Wednesday night with a 2-1 loss to Miami United FC at Ted Hendricks Stadium in Hialeah. Nacho scored the game winner for Miami in minute 87 on a crisp counter attacking move. Miami took an early 1-0 lead in minute 7 but after that Boca Raton had lions share of chances.

After Shadi Harb was fouled just outside the area in Minute 57, Bernadro Gomes delivered a strong free kick which Boca Raton’s Stefano Bontempo connected with to equalize. In minute 68, Boca Raton FC was denied a penalty on a controversial non-call for what appeared to be a handball. Moments later in minute 72, Harb played a beautiful free kick which Bernardo Gomes just missed connecting with in the area. In minute 77, Boca Raton’s Nickardo Blake appeared to be fouled in the area but he stayed on his feet and put a shot toward goal that was deflected wide.

Minutes after Nacho’s winning strike in second half stoppage time, Harb was sent off for a high boot.

Miami United FC now faces Jacksonville Armada FC in the Second Round of the US Open Cup. NPSL Sunshine Conference play resumes for Boca Raton FC with Friday’s home opener against (Orlando) Kraze United. Game time is 7 pm ET at Atlantic High School Tickets can be purchased here.
