Boca Raton, FL – Boca Raton Football Club continues to add pieces to it’s inaugural 2015 American Premier Soccer League squad.
The club has announced today that former MLS first-round pick, Nickardo Blake has joined the club for the 2015 APSL season.
The 6’1 right-back from Jamaica comes to Boca Raton after stints with MLS-side Toronto FC, and Real Salt Lake, as well as NASL-side Fort Lauderdale Strikers.
“Nickardo is an incredible signing for us as a club,” said general manager/head coach Marcelo Castillo. “Anytime you can sign a player with this much professional experience and pedigree it can only make your team better.”
Blake was the starting right-back for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers for most of the season where they fell to the Carolina Railhawks in the 2012 NASL Playoffs quarterfinals.
“I’m very excited to join Boca Raton FC, it’s an opportunity to get fit and play real football, real training, in a competitive environment,” says the 25-year old who’s knee injury halted his playing career. ” The guys are very competitive and this is a great opportunity for me to get back to full fitness.”
Coach Castillo and his staff continue to receive high marks from the players, “He [Coach Castillo] knows what he’s doing, he wants to win. You can see that he’s just as excited as us players are to get the season going.”
Blake’s pedigree speaks for itself, and the veteran will look to bring energy, competition, good spirit, and excitement back to a squad made up of mostly young college students.
Although Blake doesn’t want to put much expectation on the young expansion club, he sees the club can compete at a high level and, “whatever happens, happens,” added Blake with a smile.
